Jersey Ski & Sports, Inc. (JSSI) has been in existence since 1979, and is a member of the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS). The purpose and goal of the organization was, and still is, to initiate, encourage, implement and promote skiing and snowboarding within the African American community. To date more than 2,000 youth and adults have been exposed to the non-traditional sports of skiing, snowboarding, ice-skating, tobogganing, and snowmobiling. In support of the goal, JSSI members have contributed to the progression of the Eastern Region chapter of the NBS. In expanding its sphere of influence JSSI became members of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSSA) and a Class-A Club of the New Jersey Ski and Snowboard Council (NJSSC) which keeps the organization abreast of all important developments influencing the Black skiing community.

Members of the organization have traveled to ski resorts throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Our members have skied every major mountain in the United States and some mountains not so renowned. The one achievement that we take the most pride in is our Youth. In the 1980’s, the organization had the largest and most successful Learn to Ski program in the NBS Eastern Region. To all the people that have passed through the Learn-To-Ski programs, we salute you, and pray that your trails through life be free from moguls and snow snakes.
